Riley's Warriors was the "Charity of the Game" for the Arkansas RimRockers' Semifinal Playoff Game on March 18. Approximately 150 friends and co-workers came to the game on behalf of Riley Warriors.
"It was a great night for Riley's Warriors and most certainly for the RimRockers," said Robert McClanahan, AECC vice president of information technology and the father of Riley McClanahan for whom the group is named. "It was exciting to watch them advance to the ABA Finals. Riley also enjoyed being the center of attention for a few minutes. He cried when he had to leave the arena. He's obviously turned into a big RimRockers fan!"
Just after half-time, Cary Martin served as spokesman for the organization and told the crowd a little about Riley's Warriors, which is dedicated to helping disabled children. Riley was severely disabled after a brain injury he suffered shortly after birth. After Martin finished, the RimRockettes passed through the crowd with buckets, collecting donations.
"Riley's Warriors would like to express our deepest thanks to the Arkansas RimRockers and their fantastic fans for their overwhelming generosity at Friday night's game," McClanahan said. "Over $2900 was raised to support our work with children with disabilities. Several of the Rimrockettes told us that they had never seen the fans more generous than they were on Friday."
The generosity of the crowd was absolutely overwhelming and we collected over $2900 in donations. The RimRockettes told us that they had never seen anything like it and that people were literally throwing money at them.
These funds help move us closer to our goal of a special needs school program. Thanks to all who came out to the game and made it possible!
"To be the recipient of such an outpouring of support is truly humbling," McClanahan continued. "We are a small and relatively new organization, but the tremendous response from the fans shows us that others connect with our vision and our dreams."
